More About This Product
Description
Scope 1.1 This Standard covers asphalt intended for use as hot cement and topcoat in the construction of built-up coverings on roof decks of various types and slopes and in the construction of waterproofing systems. 1.2 The following types of asphalt are covered by this Standard: (a) Type I: asphalt for use on built-up roofs with slopes less than or equal to 1:16 and for use as waterproofing below ground level when not exposed to surface temperatures above 25 ºC (77ºF). (b) Type II: asphalt for use on built-up roofs with slopes less than or equal to 1:8 and for use as waterproofing above ground level on vertical surfaces not exposed to direct sunlight. (c) Type III: asphalt for use on built-up roofs with slopes greater than 1:8 for exposed applications or for use as waterproofing above ground level on vertical surfaces not exposed to direct sunlight. Notes: (1) The slopes specified in this clause are intended for guidance only and are not necessarily applicable to all service conditions or when asphalt is used with glass or inorganic felt ply. (2) When asphalts covered by this Standard are used for waterproofing, the recommended procedure for their application should be in accordance with CGSB 37-GP-37M. 1.3 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Legends to equations and figures are considered requirements. 1.4 The values given in SI (metric) units are the Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
