Preface This is the fourth edition of CSA C361, Test method for measuring energy consumption and drum volume of electrically operated household tumble-type clothes dryers. It supersedes the previous edition published in 1992 under the title Test Method for Measuring Energy Consumption and Drum Volume of Electrically Heated Household Tumble-Type Clothes Dryers. Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies the methods to be used for measuring the energy consumption and drum volume of household electric tumble-type clothes dryers and for evaluating their energy performance. This Standard also describes methods for determining energy consumption, with associated energy factors, and specifies maximum energy consumption limits. 1.2 This Standard applies to electrically operated household tumble-type clothes dryers, compact and standard, designed for a 60 Hz ac supply with a nominal system voltage of 120, 120/240, or 120/208 V. 1.3 This Standard does not cover gas clothes dryers. For requirements for gas clothes dryers, see CSA P.5, Test method for measuring per-cycle energy consumption, energy factor, and low power mode energy consumption of residential gas clothes dryers. 1.4 In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (nonmandatory) to define their application. 1.5 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard.
