This pack contains the following four courses as presented during the live sessions. Each previously recorded video lesson is followed by a quiz. A passing grade of 70% is required for each of the four courses to obtain the 4 category 1 credits.

MODULE 1: Principles of Effective Writing and Communication

This module introduces various forms of written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. With the focus being on the CAN/ULC fire alarm standards, this module presents practical techniques related to communications during the inspection process and completing reports in an effective and professional manner.

MODULE 2: The Importance of Inspection Reports

In order that fire protection systems and equipment in a building remain effective, periodic checks, inspections, and tests must be carried out. A vital part of this is the proper documentation of said checks, inspections, and testing. Provincial Fire Codes mandate that not only certain inspections, and tests be performed, but also the frequencies of these, and that inspection records be maintained. In this module we are addressing the importance of these inspection reports.

MODULE 3: Common Errors & Issues in Inspection Reports

In this module we examine some of the common errors and omissions that fire prevention personnel find in fire alarm system test and inspection reports. These can range from simply failing to include your CFAA technician registration number and sign the report, to illegibility of the report, to serious omissions about the subject fire alarm system. Duty of care and due diligence related to inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm systems is discussed in this module.

MODULE 4: Best Practices in Inspection Reports

In this module we cover best practices in fire alarm inspection reporting. Why it’s important, what it means and how it impacts the technician’s work. While inspecting, testing, maintaining the system, the fire alarm technician is considered the “owner” of the system. As the technician, the life safety of everyone in the building is in your hands and we discuss the importance of leaving the system in operable condition and providing clear, concise and timely reports to the building owner.
