Preface This is the first edition of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z243.58-92, Information Technology Vocabulary. This bilingual dictionary was developed to communicate and standardize information technology usage in Canada for both specialists and users. The Canadian Advisory Committee to SC1 of ISO/IEC JTC1 felt that a publication of this nature could be used as a medium for standardizing terminological usage in a field that is constantly changing. It contains basic vocabulary describing computer systems technology with fundamental terms related to the latest technological developments such as OSI and expert systems. In this first edition, special attention was given to the preparation of user-oriented definitions. Grateful acknowledgement is made to the Department of the Secretary of State of Canada, which provided the human and financial resources necessary for both the research and production of this Standard. Particular thanks are due to the Terminology and Linguistic Services Directorate for its continued support and to Carmen Bernleithner for her review of the final version. This Standard was prepared by the Canadian Advisory Committee to SC1 of ISO/IEC JTC1 under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on Information Technology and was formally approved by these Committees. It has been approved as a National Standard of Canada by the Standards Council of Canada. Notes: (1) Use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense allows. (2) It is the user's responsibility to judge this Standard's suitability for his/her particular purpose. (3) CSA Standards are subject to periodic review, and suggestions for their improvement will be referred to the appropriate committee. Ce dictionnaire bilingue a été élaboré dans le but de diffuser et de normaliser l'usage dans le domaine de la technologie de l'information au Canada chez les spécialistes et les utilisateurs. Le comité consultatif canadien du SC1 du ISO/CEI JTC1 est d'avis qu'une publication de ce genre servira de vecteur de normalisation de l'usage terminologique au Candada dans un domaine qui est en constante évolution. Cet ouvrage comporte le vocabulaire de base couvrant la technologie des systèmes informatiques ainsi que les termes fondamentaux relatifs aux plus récents développements technologiques tels que l'OSI et les systèmes experts. Au cours de la préparation de cette première édition, un souci constant a été apporté à l'établissement de définitions de portée générale.
