Description

Preface

This is the first edition of No. 201 of a series of standards issued by the Canadian Standards

Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. It is written in SI (metric) units.

The busways covered by this Standard are indoor and outdoor metal-enclosed busways

for voltages from 751 V to 46 kV, inclusive, ac or dc, intended to be used in nonhazardous locations.

This Standard was prepared under the jurisdiction of the CSA Standards Steering

Committee on CE Code, Part II, and was formally approved by this Committee and its Technical Committee on Industrial Products.

June, 1984

Note: Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its Scope, it is

important to note that it remains the responsibility of the user of the Standard to judge its suitability for his or her particular purpose.

CSA Standards are subject to periodical review and suggestions for their improvement will be referred to the appropriate committee. All enquiries regarding this Standard, including requests for interpretation, should be addressed to Canadian Standards Association, Standards Division, 178 Rexdale Boulevard, Rexdale (Toronto), Ontario M9W 1R3. Requests for interpretation should

(a) define the problem, making reference to a specific Clause, and, where appropriate, include an illustrative sketch;

(b) provide an explanation of circumstances surrounding the actual field condition; and

(c) be phrased, to permit a specific "yes" or "no" answer.

Interpretations are published in "CSA Information Update". For subscription details and a free sample copy, write to CSA Information Centre or telephone (416) 747-4058.

Scope

1.1

This Standard applies to indoor and outdoor metal-enclosed busways for voltages from 751 V to 46 kV, inclusive, ac or de, intended to be used in nonhazardous locations in accordance with the Rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

1.2

This Standard includes straight bus sections, elbows, tees, adapter boxes, wall flanges, forced-cooled and nonforced-cooled busways, isolating links, and expansion joints.

It includes constructions with rigid bus or cable type conductors.

This Standard does not apply to isolated phase constructions rated more than 5000 A continuous.

1.3

This Standard applies to busways using air as part of the insulation system but excludes gases (other than air) and solid or liquid insulation systems.
