Description

Preface

This is the third edition of a series of Standards issued by the Canadian Standards

Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. This edition supersedes

previous editions published in 1936 (reaffirmed in 1949) and 1959 (reaffirmed in 1964 and

1969). This edition is written in SI (metric) units.

This Standard applies to

(a) electrode receptacles and fittings for mounting gas tubes intended for indoor and

outdoor applications operating at voltages of 15 000 V and less but not exceeding 7 500 V

to ground for use in accordance with the rules of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I;

(b) connectors that are intended to enclose the ends of gas tube electrodes and to

provide a connection to the secondary voltage supply.

This edition includes the following changes to the previous edition:

(a) incorporation of published Amendments 1, 2, and 3;

(b) addition of date marking on each receptacle.

For general information on the Standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II, see

the Preface of CSA Standard C22.2 No. 0, General Requirements—Canadian Electrical

Code, Part II.

This Standard was prepared by a Subcommittee of the Technical Committee on Wiring

Products under the jurisdiction of the Standards Steering Committee on CE Code, Part II,

and was formally approved by these Committees.

June 1987

Notes:

(1) Use of the masculine gender in this Standard is not meant to exclude the feminine

gender. Similarly, use of the singular does not exclude the plural (and vice versa) when the sense

allows.

(2) Although the intended primary application of this Standard is stated in its Scope, it is important to note that it remains the responsibility of the user of the Standard to judge its suitability for his

particular purpose.

(3) CSA Standards are subject to periodic review, and suggestions for their improvement will be

referred to the appropriate committee.

(4) All enquiries regarding this Standard, including requests for interpretation, should be addressed

to Canadian Standards Association, Standards Division, 178 Rexdale Boulevard, Rexdale,

Ontario M9W 1R3.

Requests for interpretation should

(a) define the problem, making reference to the specific clause, and, where appropriate, include an

illustrative sketch;

(b) provide an explanation of circumstances surrounding the actual field condition; and

(c) be phrased where possible to permit a specific "yes" or "no" answer.

Interpretations are published in "CSA Information Update". For subscription details and a free

sample copy, write to CSA Marketing or telephone (416) 747-2292.
