The industrial electrician is required to apply their field experience in concert with the application of present-day Codes, Standards, and historical and state of the art industrial/commercial electrical/mechanical equipment. For this reason this manual covers not only the essentials of the 442A exam material but devotes considerable attention to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Canadian Electrical Code requirements, as applied, to ensure safe electrical maintenance and installation practices.
The 442A is currently a voluntary qualification, typically applied in Commercial and Industrial facilities where a Ministry Qualified Industrial Electrician provides the Code required maintenance of the facilities' electrical systems.
Facility owners understand the need for qualified persons to perform tasks as regulated by Canadian Codes and Standards, thus reducing risk including high insurance premiums.
