Description
Preface This is the second edition of CSA S269.1, Temporary Work and Formwork. It replaces the previous edition published in 1975 entitled Falsework for Construction Purposes.  The following significant changes have been made since the previous edition of this standard: (a) Provisions are now included for the limit states calculation while those for the allowable constraints calculation are still present; the designer can choose the most suitable method. The inclusion of limit state requirements is intended to provide at least the same level of safety as the design requirements for existing allowable stresses.  (b) This standard consolidates into one standard the previous CSA S269.1 (dealing with temporary works) and CSA S269.3 (dealing with formwork) to eliminate redundancy and facilitate reading.  c) A section on formwork and specialized temporary works has been added.  d) Appendix A, which deals with plywood, has been added.  (e) The sections of the scope, definitions, reference works, site activities and tests document, as well as diagrams, figures and tables have been updated. These updates update this standard and align it with documents of a similar nature.  Application domain This standard sets out the rules and requirements for the design, manufacture, assembly, inspection, testing, maintenance and use of materials, components and systems of temporary structures and formwork that are installed to provide temporary vertical and lateral support or contain freshly poured concrete for buildings and other structures that are constructed, modified or repaired; it also deals with the re-shoring of the new slab systems whose maximum resistance has not yet been reached. This standard also covers the design of perimeter enclosure systems.  Notes:  (1) Additional rules and requirements may be required for some unusual types of temporary works or formwork (a) exposed to an environment or unusual elements (b) whose materials or procedures are not addressed in this standard (c) which are intended to be used repeatedly for prefabrication applications (2) The AS 3600, AS 3610, BS 5975 and BS EN 12812 standards deal with similar issues.  1.2 This standard is structured and organized to be used in conjunction with standards and concepts relating to permissible stress calculation, or limit state design.  1.3 This Standard does not apply to   (a) suspended scaffolds or flying scaffolds (b) platforms installed on a truck or on a vehicle  (c) access scaffolds (d) the design of concrete structures e) stackable stack formwork ( f) demolition  1.4 In this standard, the word "shall" indicates a requirement, that is, a requirement that the user must meet to ensure compliance with the standard; "Should" indicates a recommendation or what it is advised but not required to do; and "may" indicates a possibility or what is permitted.  The notes accompanying the articles do not include prescriptions or recommendations. They serve to separate from the text explanations or information that is not properly part of the norm.  The notes at the bottom of the figures and tables are part of these and may be written as prescriptions.  The annexes are qualified as normative (mandatory) or informative (optional) to specify its application.  1.5 The values ??given in SI units are the official values ??in this standard. Values ??in parentheses are for information only and for comparison purposes only.
