This is the Second Edition of the ORD for Combustible Piping for Sprinkler Systems. These requirements cover thermoplastic pipe and fittings for use in wet pope sprinkler systems for fire protection service.

Thermoplastic pipe and fittings covered by these requirements are intended for use in sprinkler systems in any of the following types of occupancies:

  • Light hazard occupancies and ordinary hazard rooms of otherwise light hazard occupancies, where the room does not exceed 37.2 sq. m (400 sq. ft.) as defined in the Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems, NFPA 13;
  • Residential occupancies as defined in the Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems in One and Two Family Dwellings and Manufactured Homes, NFPA 13D;
  • Residential occupancies as defined in the Standard for Installation of Sprinklers Systems in Residential Occupancies Up to and Including Four Stories in Height, NFPA 13R.

 

Sprinkler piping located within a plenum shall have a flame-spread rating of not more than 25, and a smoke developed classification of not more than 50. Published January 2002.
