The CFAA Simulated and Proctored Theory Exam contains two parts: a simulated theory exam and the final proctored theory exam. To be successful on this exam, it is STRONGLY recommended that you have a copy of Standards and Codes available during the exam (i.e. open book). Some questions will also test field or lab experience.

Simulated Theory Exam: This exam is composed of a randomized selection of questions so each exam will differ. There is no proctoring, but the exam is timed for three hours to simulate what you will experience when you take the final Proctored Exam. You may take the Simulated Exam as often as you like and review your wrong answer report to assist with your study.

Proctored Theory Exam (Final Exam): This exam has the same format as the simulated exam, though the questions are randomly selected from a question bank. Do not advance to this exam until you are confident that you can pass a simulated exam, as a failing grade will require you to repurchase. This proctored, open-book exam has 120 questions, a three-hour time limit, and requires a passing grade of 80+%. You cannot skip questions, and you will not be able to review your answers. You must upload a photo ID (driver's license, passport or some other legal document with a recent picture). Make sure your camera is enabled. The system will take a starting picture and use facial recognition to ensure that only the initiating person is taking the exam. Position yourself so that you are always in front of the camera. Make sure that there is no one else with you while you are taking the exam. You will receive warnings each time you are unrecognizable, not present, or have additional people present. If you have exceeded the warning threshold, the exam will terminate, and you will have to repurchase. Please make sure you have studied from the Required Reading list. If you do not make a passing grade, you may repeat the exam by repurchasing it.
