The Large Buildings 2012 Workbook is designed to assist those persons who are preparing to write the Large Buildings 2012 Building Code qualification examination. The Workbook follows the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing syllabi for the qualification examination. In addition, for those persons preparing to write the Complex Buildings 2012 qualification examination, you will find this Workbook to be a necessary study. The Complex Buildings 2012 qualification examination contains questions that are related to Large Building types.

The Large Buildings 2012 Workbook contains over 450 pages of information from the Ontario Building Code, Volumes 1 and 2, including over 100 detailed diagrams. There are over 500 questions, with answers and commentary that will help you monitor your progress towards obtaining the necessary Building Code knowledge in order to be successful in writing the Ministry’s qualification examination.

2) Large Building 2012 Online Course, which provides you with the requirements of the Building Code applicable to Large Buildings. The Large Building class of registration and category of qualification can be found in Division C – Part 3, Table 3.5.2.1. Item 3. Large Buildings are all buildings with an area greater than 10 m² and:

1)            Used for

               a)            Group A, assembly occupancy

               b)            Group B, care or detention occupancies, or

               c)            Group F, Division 1, high hazard industrial occupancies, and

2)            Exceeding 600 m2 in building area or exceeding 3 storeys in building height used for major occupancies classified as

               a)            Group C, residential occupancies

               b)            Group D, business and personal service occupancies

               c)            Group E, mercantile occupancies, or

               d)            Group F, Divisions 2 and 3, medium and low hazard industrial occupancies, and the building systems, works, fixtures and service systems appurtenant to these buildings.

Anthony Boyko is a Manager of Building Code Inspections and Deputy Chief Building Official with the City of Markham. He has held positions of building inspector, architectural plans examiner and project manager with a combined Building Code regulatory experience of over 25 years. Anthony has actively contributed to technical manuals produced by various governmental bodies and was a member of the executive committee for the Canadian Commission on Construction Materials Evaluation. He is an Architectural Technologist, Certified Engineering Technician, Certified Municipal Manager, CDECA Educator member and part-time college instructor. Anthony is provincially qualified as a supervisor/manager and designer.

Steven Penna has over 30 years in regulating and enforcing the Ontario Building Code Act and Regulation. He is also a part-time instructor for Georgian College and has also taught for Seneca College, Humber College, and George Brown College in the Continuing Education Programs. He is a certified member of the Ontario Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
