Eng., from CodeNext Inc., The goal of this course is to help us realize the importance of Inspecting and Testing the life safety systems in our buildings but at the same time I want us to consider that this applies to many aspects of our building outside of Fire and Life Safety.  We need to keep in mind that as time goes on the many components of our buildings need to be re-evaluated and we need to confirm that the original intentions whether it be life safety, accessibility, or inclusion are still being met from a functional, safety, and user-based standpoint.  The only way to do this is regular inspection, and understanding the uses and ongoing maintenance of all the things that we spent so much time doing right in the beginning.

Presented by Melinda Amador, P. Eng., from CodeNext Inc., this presentation focuses on prescriptive requirements that impact the design of spaces where flammable and combustible liquids are present. The presentation provides examples and descriptions of flammable and combustible liquids and provides an introduction to the application of the Ontario Fire Code, specifically Section 4.1 and Section 4.2, for various occupancy applications.

The course includes commentary that extends beyond the prescriptive language of the code to describe the reasons for certain design requirements and the fundamental physical properties associated with flammable and combustible liquids.

Presented by Melinda Amador, P. Eng., from CodeNext Inc., this presentation provides an introduction to the Ontario Fire Code regulations for compressed gases in cylinders. This presentation provides descriptions of the different divisions of dangerous goods for compressed gases, what risks they present, and how specific risks are managed and mitigated under Section 5.6 of the Ontario Fire Code and other recognized standards and Codes. In addition to the Ontario Fire Code, the presentation also introduces applicable requirements for compressed gases found in the Ontario Building Code, National Fire Code of Canada, and NFPA 55, “Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code”, 2023 edition.
